Input/Output Wiring

This section describes SmartAXIS input/output device wiring.
Precautions for I/O Device Wiring
Input Terminal Wiring
When wiring input devices, separate wiring from power, output, and motor lines.
When using duct for wiring, ground piping using a D-type (type 3) ground.
When wiring DC power type models, keep wiring away from AC power lines.
When using shielded cable for wiring, ground the shield on the SmartAXIS side using a D-type (type 3) ground.
Wire input devices you want to connect to the SmartAXIS according to type as shown below.

Caution
The above diagram (NPN output) is a reference wiring diagram for connecting an input device with NPN
output to the SmartAXIS sink input. By installing an external resistor, an input device with NPN output can be
connected. When installing an external resistor, note the following points when wiring and checking the
operation.
When the external power supply voltage is 24V DC, an external resistor with a resistance value of 1kΩ and a rated voltage

of 2W or more (safety factor more than 3 times) is recommended. In this case, the current flowing through the external
resistor is as follows.



The on/off operation of the NPN output of the input device and the sink input of SmartAXIS is reversed.




When NPN output of the input device is off: Approximately 3.8 mA
When the NPN output of the input device is on: Approximately 24.0 mA
When the NPN output of the input device is off, the sink input of SmartAXIS is on.
When the NPN output of the input device is on, the sink input of SmartAXIS is off.
