Chapter 7
WEEKLY CHECKS
ENgINE OIL LEVEL – DIESEL
Engine oil must be kept at correct levels to help ensure proper lubrication of the
vehicle's engine. Check the oil level at regular intervals, such as when refuelling. If the
oil pressure warning lamp comes on, you must check the oil level immediately, or risk
causing damage to the engine. Refer to Warning/reminder indications in chapter 1A.
Check the engine oil level
Check the oil level while the vehicle is
parked on level ground, with the engine
switched off and at normal operating
temperature.
Before checking the oil level, wait a few
minutes after switching the engine off, to
allow the oil to settle.
1. Remove the oil dipstick from the oil
level tube.
2. Wipe the dipstick clean.
3. Insert the dipstick back into the oil
tube as far as it will go.
4. Wait for a few seconds before again
removing the dipstick.
The oil level should be maintained
between
the
marks,
above the upper mark nor under the
lower mark.
Note Remember to insert the dipstick
firmly after taking the reading.
To add engine oil
Use the correct oil for your vehicle. Refer
to Specifications – diesel engines in
chapter 8.
1. Remove the engine oil cap.
2. Add the required amount of oil.
3. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle,
then check the oil level again. When
the oil level is correct, replace the oil
cap and dipstick, and clean up any
spilt oil.
Note Non-detergent and other low quality oils are specifically not recommended.
The use of break-in oil, tune up compounds, friction reducing compounds and other
supplemental additives are not recommended. Their use will increase costs, may be
detrimental to the operation of your car and may void your New Vehicle Warranty,
to the extent that Holden considers the non-recommended fluid to have affected the
specifications or quality of your vehicle.
