DRIVING

SAFETY cont.
Off road driving (All Wheel Drive AWD vehicles)
The AWD Captiva has not been designed as a full off road vehicle. The requirement to
maintain a very high degree of comfort, ride, handling and stability dictates the ground
clearance and may not be sufficient to allow the vehicle to be driven over very severe
four wheel drive tracks.
To achieve a high degree of unsealed road capability, the vehicle is equipped with all
wheel drive, increased ground clearance and a traction control system.
Off road driving (Front Wheel Drive FWD vehicles)
The FWD Captiva is designed primarily for on road use. The FWD Captiva may be
used on well maintained unsealed (gravel) roads in the same way as a conventional
passenger vehicle.
Level ride suspension
3
The level ride suspension system automatically adjusts the suspension level while
the vehicle is moving, this is achieved by the shock absorbers slowly adjusting to the
load weight to help maintain a constant ride level. When a load is placed in the rear of
the vehicle, the suspension is slowly lifted upward to its previous unloaded level. This
improves the ride and handling when the rear of the vehicle is loaded.
Road conditions (All Wheel Drive AWD vehicles)
The AWD Captiva is capable of being driven over poorer roads, although extra care
must be taken when driving in conditions that may not be familiar. Some roads are
often not well maintained and may have washaways, loose or slippery patches, rocks,
fallen tree branches, deep pot holes or ditches that can catch out the unwary driver.
These roads must be driven at slow speed and with great caution.
It is highly advisable to travel with another vehicle when travelling on remote or poor
quality roads.
