Chapter 4
DRIVING
AUTOmATIC TRANSmISSION
This system has a five-speed electronically
controlled automatic transmission. Its
shift indicators are arranged with P (park)
at one end, followed in sequence by R
(reverse), N (neutral) and then the forward
driving ranges.
To prevent the vehicle from 'creeping' you
should always have your foot on the brake
pedal when shifting out of P or N.
SHIFT LOCk CONTROL SYSTEm
Your vehicle has a Brake-Transmission
Shift Interlock (BTSI) system. Before
shifting from P (park), the ignition must
be in the ON position and the brake pedal
must be applied.
If the system does not respond to the
above procedure and the shift lever
can not be moved, use the following
procedure:
1. Switch off the ignition (LOCK position)
and remove the key.
2. Apply and hold the brake pedal.
3. Remove the cap from the transmission shift lock slot.
4. Insert and press the ignition key into the transmission shift lock slot.
5. Shift the gear lever to N (neutral).
6. Remove the key from the slot.
7. Start the engine and shift the transmission into the desired position.
8. Reinstall the cap.
9. Refer to your Holden Dealer as soon as possible.
Note
If the shift lever is returned to the P (park) position, the above procedure will need
to be repeated to shift the lever into N (neutral).
The above procedure will need to be carried out if the vehicle has a flat battery and
requires towing.
Refer to Towing a disabled vehicle in chapter 6.
