Classical Pilates Studio Best Practices and Safety
Guidelines
General Studio Safety
1. Keep pathways clear of equipment and accessories.
2. Inspect all apparatus and maintain equipment on regular.
weekly/monthly/quarterly basis. See manufacturers guidelines.
3. Reset, check and clean all equipment after use
Contrology Reformer and Tower (Combo Unit)
1. Reformer Combo Unit Reset
a. In Reformer Mode
i. The shoulder blocks are securely attached to the carriage.
ii. The headrest is up in the middle position and secure.
iii. The spring bar is in first gear.
iv. All 4 springs are attached.
v. The extension straps are draped over the back of the frame.
vi. The handles are stored on the shoulder block hooks.
vii. The box is placed behind the Reformer, or to the studio's
specifications.
viii. Pole, pads, caster cover, and gear blocks are stored out of
the walkways and to the studio's specifications.
ix. Cadillac springs are stored on the tower, or out of the
walkways and to the studio's specifications.
x. PTB is hooked up to the center storage chain and stored to
the outside of the tower.
b. In Cadillac / Mat Mode
i. Shoulder blocks, extension straps, leather straps, and handles
are stored neatly under the Reformer or out of the walkways.
ii. The caster cover is in place.
iii. Headrest is down.
iv. Carriage is at the back of the frame - all springs are unhooked.
v. The foot bar is lowered into the frame and the foot bar
support is pointing towards the back of the Reformer.
vi. The insert mat is placed in the frame.
vii. The rollback bar is attached to the top hooks on the tower
uprights.
viii. The leg springs are attached to the second-highest hooks.
ix. The arm springs are attached to the lowest hooks, or on the
standing arm spring hooks on the outside of the tower.
x. The push-through bar (PTB) is stored to the outside of the
tower using the center chain and clip.
2. Recommended monthly safety check
a. Springs
i. Inspect for wear, kinks, unevenness, separation, and rust.
Immediately replace any parts that show signs of weakness.
Refer to Figure A at the end of this document.
ii. Reformer - Rotate spring quarterly - move the inner 2
springs to the outside for even wear.
b. Clips
i. Inspect all clips for signs of wear - check the snaps,
openings, and clips. Make sure the closure works correctly.
Replace immediately if there's an issue. NOTE: Refer to
Figure B at the end of this document.
c. Leather Straps
i. Inspect leather straps for cracks and signs of wear.
Immediately replace any parts that show signs of weakness.
ii. Check carriage attachments and QuickLinks for wear and
make sure the attachments are tight. Refer to Figure C at
the end of this document.
iii. Tighten eyelets on Reformer frame if necessary.
d. Extension Straps, Foot Straps, and Fuzzies
i. Inspect stitching on strap ends.
ii. Check the stitching on all the straps and loops for wear and
lose stitching and replace immediately.
iii. Check the fuzzies and the underlying loops for loose
iv. stitching and worn material. Replace immediately if signs of
wear.
e. Handles
i. Check snaps and hooks for wear. Make sure all screws are
tight.
f. Footbar
i. Check the side screws and tighten if necessary
g. Carriage
i. Inspect headrest screws and attachments. Replace with any
sign of wear.
h. Frame
i. Check the eyebolts on the Reformer Frame (foot strap
attachments, lower PTB attachments, and all tower
attachments) NOTE: If you can twist an eyebolt by hand, it is
too loose.
i. Inspects the PTB pivot points
j. Check the PTB safety chains and eyelets for signs of wear.
Tighten or replace as necessary
