12. COOLING SYSTEM

3. RADIATOR CAP INSPECTION

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and
eyewear are recommended at this point.
 Removing the radiator cap while the
engine is hot can cause the coolant
to spray out, seriously scalding you.
 Allow the engine sufficient time to
cool before handling or working on
the cooling system components.
Remove the radiator cap in two stages.
Allow any built up pressure to vent and then
open the cap all the way and remove it.
After remove the radiator cap, wet the tester
seal, and install the end of the pressure
tester onto the filler neck. Pump the tester
up until the gauge reads 0.84 kg/cm
psi. The cooling system should hold this
pressure for at least 6 seconds.
Replace the radiator cap if it does not hold
pressure, or if relief pressure is too high or
too low.
It must hold the specified pressure for at
least 6 seconds.
 Before installing the cap in the
tester, wet the sealing surface.
 Excessive pressure can damage the
cooling system components.
 Do not exceed 105 kPa (1.05 kg/cm2,
14.9 psi).
