Power Saving Mode

The Harmony 802.11b PC Card supports optional power man-
agement to conserve battery life. Power Saving Mode is only
available for nodes operating in Infrastructure mode.
When Power Saving Mode (or PS Mode) is enabled, the
Harmony 802.11b PC Card enters a "doze" mode where the card
becomes inactive and only wakes up periodically to receive
control messages from the Access Point.
The Access Point buffers packets destined for a dozing PC Card
and includes a notification within its control message to alert the
PC Card that a packet is waiting for it. Once the PC Card
receives the control message, it polls the Access Point to request
that the buffered packet be sent to it.

Channel

Direct sequence spread spectrum devices spread a radio signal
over a range of frequencies. The IEEE 802.11b specification
allocates the 2.4 GHz frequency band into 14 overlapping
operating Channels.
In the United States, the 802.11b standard allocates 11 operating
Channels for direct sequence devices. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are
independent and do not overlap with each other.
A PC Card configured for Infrastructure mode receives a Chan-
nel assignment from its Access Point. You cannot configure the
Channel for a PC Card configured for Infrastructure mode.
For an Ad Hoc network, you must manually configure each
member of the network with the same Channel number. Ad Hoc
nodes must be configured to use same Channel in order to
communicate.
