Problem/Symptom
Question
Why can't I associate with
an Access Point?
The Access Point is
configured to use Shared
Key Authentication. What
configuration changes do I
need to make to allow the
PC Card to associate with
the Access Point?
Why can't I communicate
with other 802.11b PC
Cards in an Ad Hoc
network?
What happens if I go out of
range?
How do I know if I'm out
of range?
Possible Solution/Answer
Your 802.11b PC Card may not
have the same SSID and
Encryption settings as the Access
Point. Also, check to see if the
Access Point is using Shared Key
Authentication.
Either configure the Access Point
to use Open System Authentication
or change the PC Card's
Authentication Algorithm
parameter to "Must Use Shared
With WEP." Also, if you change
the Authenitcation Algorithm to
use Shared Key, configure the PC
Card with the same Encryption
Keys as the Access Point.
Your Harmony 802.11b PC Card
may not have the same SSID and
Encryption settings as the other
802.11b devices on the network.
Also, confirm that the card is
configured to Ad Hoc mode.
This is determined by the network
and the amount of time you are out
of range, but you may be logged
off the network. The same thing
will happen if you unplugged a
wired Ethernet cable.
Use the Harmony 802.11b Utility.
The System Tray icon will indicate
if the card is out of range and
therefore not linked to an Access
Point. Also, use the Link Info
page to determine the strength of a
radio connection.
