When set to Infrastructure mode, an 802.11b PC Card must have
the same SSID and Encryption Keys (if WEP is enabled) as the
Access Points on the network to communicate. In an Infrastruc-
ture network, a PC Card communicates exclusively with its
Access Point; the Access Point relays packets to the Ethernet
network and to other wirefree nodes within the same cell.

SSID

The SSID (Service Set ID), which is also referred to as the
ESSID (Extended Service Set ID), is a text string that all mem-
bers of the same 802.11b network share.
The SSID may be up to 32 alphanumeric characters long, includ-
ing spaces. The default SSID is "ANY." When configured to
"ANY," a Harmony 802.11b PC Card can communicate with
any available Access Point or Ad Hoc network regardless of the
Access Point's or network's SSID.
In an Infrastructure network, the SSID must match on all
Harmony 802.11b Access Points and 802.11b clients. Devices
that do not share the same SSID cannot communicate.
In an Ad Hoc network with an Access Point, each PC Card must
have the same SSID to participate in the network.
The installation program prompts you to select an SSID when
setting up the Harmony 802.11b PC Card. You can change this
setting at any time using the Harmony 802.11b Utility.
