STEP 3 – Run throttle wizards
The engine response wizards will use the values acquired in STEP 2 to
develop a relationship between throttle and RPM that the joystick will use
to improve its control of the vessel. Perform with boat safely secured, or
in an open area.
Forward Throttle Wizard:
1. Press Take Command on the joystick. Ensure boost mode is off.
2. Click Run Port Engine Forward Throttle Wizard (see figure B-9).
The joystick's A LED will flash to indicate the port wizard is running.
3. Push and hold the joystick all the way forward. The wizard will increase
throttle from maximum idle throttle to maximum joystick throttle
(recorded in STEP 2) in increments, returning to zero throttle before
each increment.
a. If necessary, rotate the joystick to correct the boat's heading.
To abort the wizard release the joystick.
b. When the wizard finishes the LED will stop flashing. This takes about
one minute.
4. Click Read to import the wizard values into Datalink.
5. Examine the second Y-value (see figure B-9) in the table. If it is more
than 100 RPM higher than the engine's in-gear idle RPM, go back to
STEP 2 and decrease FWD: Port Max Throttle at Idle by 0.5%. Click
Write if you make a change.
6. Examine the final Y-value in the table. The target value is 1800 ± 200.
a. If it is less than 1600, go back to STEP 2 and increase FWD: Port Max
Joystick Throttle by 0.5%.
b. If it is more than 2000, decrease FWD: Port Max Joystick Throttle
by 0.5%.
c. Click Write if you make a change.
