8 Mercury DTS
To complete the system installation for a Mercury DTS engine:
1. Connect the gateway harness to the Mercury DTS remote control
(section 8.1).
2. Install the Optimus EST gateway (section 8.2)
3. Complete the CAN1, CAN2 and CAN3 network connections (refer to
figure 8-3 and figure 8-4).
4. Calibrate the gateway (section 8.3)
Once you've completed these steps you can move on to sea trial (Book 65)
and then to the joystick setup (Book 65).
The EST Gateway harness (CM20038) connects to the Lever Position.
Sensor (LPS) connection on the underside of the Mercury DTS control
head. These connections are illustrated in the figure 8-1 and figure 8-2.
Although a twin-engine remote control is shown, the connections are
identical for a triple or quad engine control.
8.1 Mercury DTS remote control

There must be one gateway per Mercury control head. Failure to comply
may cause loss of steering control, property damage, personal injury
and/or death.

1. Open the harness retainer clips, located on the underside of the
Mercury DTS control head (see figure 8-1).
2. Disconnect the lever 1 and lever 2 Mercury DTS harnesses.
3. Connect EST Gateway's LPS harness plug labeled "LEVER 1" (STBD) into
the "STBD" socket of the Mercury DTS control head.
4. Connect Mercury DTS "LEVER 1" plug into EST gateway's wye connector
socket labeled "LEVER 1".
There are color coded dots on the ERC and colored labels on the
lever harnesses to ensure correct connection: Blue for starboard
(Lever 1) and Yellow for port (Lever 2).
