Installation and Troubleshooting Tips

General Precautions

WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury, read and follow
the warnings on page 4.
D Never connect or disconnect system components
with the power turned on. In addition to being a
safety hazard, failure to turn off the power can
damage the equipment.
D When there are any active or waiting jobs in the
system:
Never save any setup information (such as
D
new operators and passwords, inventory
updates, etc.)
Never CLEAR any system tables under
D
SETUP when there are any active or waiting
jobs.
Never UPDATE TABLES under SETUP when
D
there are any active or waiting jobs.
Use the RUN " VIEW CURRENT JOBS screen to
check the status of system jobs prior to making
changes. See page 54. This is to ensure that the
changes made do not accidently change a system
resource that is assigned to an active job.
NOTE: Remember to reboot the system after
saving changes.
D Do not SAVE, CLEAR or UPDATE any tables under
SETUP while the system is printing any job transac-
tion reports.
D Do not print an Inventory Report while there are job
reports printing or in the active or waiting queues.
Job reports always have the highest priority at the
printer and may override the inventory printout,
giving potentially confusing information.
System Components and
Installation Overview

Control Module

Check each control module prior to mounting it on the
wall.
1. Modify a power cord so it has a plug on one end
and stripped wires on the other end to use to
power the control module at the workbench.
2. Attach the power cord to the control module.
3. Attach a keypad (any variety).
4. Turn on the power to the control module. It will
"boot up" and display first a dash in the upper left
hand corner, then the software version level, and
finally the HOME screen (with RUN, INVT and
SETUP options).
If the keypad stays on the dash for more than
10--15 seconds, either the memory chips on the
circuit board or the keypad itself is damaged. Verify
the cause by swapping parts.
NOTE: It is a good practice to setup a control module
or two, some solenoids and meters, and the printer on
a workbench, prior to installing the system. This will
allow you to get comfortable with the connections, the
process, and the diagnostic functions in a more con-
trolled environment.

Programming Off-site

If programming the Master Control Module off-site,
away from the rest of the network, turn off the CAN
before starting to program. See page 21. If you do
not turn off the CAN, the module will appear to"lockup"
after saving.
When installing the Master Control Module into the
network, be sure to turn the CAN back on before
updating the tables across the network (copying the
setup information to each Control Module).
