1. Remove the side covers. Refer to
install the side covers on page 21 .
2. Remove the adjustment nuts of the steering cables
(A).
3. Remove the frame tunnel cover. Refer to
the frame tunnel cover on page 20 .
4. Disconnect the front connections (B) of the steering
cables at the steering chain (C).
5. Loosen the cable pulleys (D).
6. Attach the front end of the new steering cable to the
rear end of the used steering cable.
7. Pull out the used cables from the frame to put the
new cables in the frame.
8. Tighten the cable pulleys (D).
9. Install the adjustment nuts of the steering cables (A).
10. Make sure that the steering wheel is in the center
position when the rear wheels are in center position.
Reset the chain on the sprocket on the steering
column or adjust the rear fixture, if it is necessary.
9.8.3 To replace the steering cable pulley

1. Remove the side covers. Refer to

2. Remove the frame cover. Refer to
install the frame cover on page 20 .
3. Remove the locknuts of the steering cables (A).
4. Remove the screw (B) and remove the steering
cable pulley (E).
5. Remove the bushing (F) from the steering cable
pulley (E).
6. Remove the bearing snap ring (C) and tap out the
bearing (D).
7. Install in the opposite sequence.

8. Make sure that the cables in the cable pulleys (G)
are in the correct position.
9. Make sure that the steering wheel is in the center
position when the rear wheels are in center position.
Reset the chain on the sprocket on the steering
column or adjust the rear fixture, if it is necessary.
9.8.4 To remove and install the steering column
A
1. Remove the locknuts on the steering cables (A).
2. Remove the frame tunnel cover. Refer to
the frame tunnel cover on page 20 .
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
steering wheel on page 8 .
4. Remove the steering column cover. Refer to
remove and install the steering column cover on
page 19 .
5. Remove the screw (B) and washer in the lower end
of the steering column.
6. Remove the steering chain (D) from the steering
column (C).

7. Move the top bearing (E) and the bushing (F) up and
remove them from the steering column (C).
