Build Chamber
The recoater assembly has the function of depositing a uniform layer of material over recently
formed portions of parts being built. It is this layer of material that will be cured in specific areas
by a laser to form the next solidified layer of part. For this purpose, the recoater blade sweeps
over recently formed portions of the part depositing a precisely sized layer of uncured material.
The recoater assembly is comprised of a hollow recoater blade supported by bearing
assemblies at each end. The bearings run on linear rails and are driven by lead screws
mounted on the right and left sides of the build chamber. The lead screws are controlled by a
chain-driven stepper motor and encoder.
guards removed.
The blade height, and the blade's angle relative to the surface of the resin (blade rake), are
both adjustable. These adjustments are performed by technicians during the initial machine
setup.
A vacuum line and air flow control valve are attached to the top of the recoater blade. A
vacuum pump inside the enclosure creates a vacuum inside the hollow recoater blade, which
causes the resin to rise into the blade.
The blade moves from front-to-rear-to-front after each layer of a part has been drawn by the
laser. Adjustable sensors, located at the right side of the recoater assembly, limit the blade's
movement.
The main printer operator needs to learn this adjustment while the initial adjustment
is being performed. Proper adjustment is critical for proper printer operation.
