Special Safety Warnings for ATEX-protected Pneumatic
Motors
 Do not use pneumatic motors from Group II in under-
ground operations (mining) and use them only with
non-explosive compressed air (Equipment Group II –).
Use these pneumatic motors from Group II only in are-
as in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of gas-
es, vapours, mists (G) or consisting of dust/air mix-
tures (D) either occurs only occasionally (Zone 1 or 21)
or occurs normally not at all or only briefly (Zone 2 or
22).
 Bosch pneumatic motors can be used in explosive are-
as corresponding to Zone T5 (upper limit of ambient
temperature: +60 °C; surface temperature of the
pneumatic motor: maximum 100 °C) and T6 (upper
limit of ambient temperature: +40 °C; surface temper-
ature of the pneumatic motor: maximum 85 °C) only if
special conditions are met for the lower limit of the am-
bient temperature.
Ensure that the ambient temperature does not fall be-
low –20 °C when using the pneumatic motor in Zone
T5 or T6, deviating from the temperature range (X)
specified in the directive. Failure to observe this poses a
risk of explosion.
 Use compressed air from Quality Category 5 in accord-
ance with DIN ISO 8573-1 and a separate maintenance
unit near to the pneumatic motor. The supplied com-
pressed air must be free of foreign material and moisture in
order to protect the motor against damage, dirt and rust.
 Never exceed the operating pressure of 6,3 bar/91 psi!
The compressed air used must not be explosive and
must not exceed 40 °C in T6 or 60 °C in T5. Protect the
pneumatic motor against moisture both during trans-
port and during storage. Increased operating pressure,
excessive temperature of the compressed air, and rust for-
mation due to moisture are ignition sources.
 Do not unpack, assemble or disassemble pneumatic
motors in an explosive atmosphere. Do not perform any
maintenance work in an explosive atmosphere. Assembly,
disassembly and maintenance work can create potential
ignition sources.
Symbols
The following symbols can be important for the operation of
your pneumatic motor. Please memorise the symbols and
their meanings. Correct interpretation of the symbols helps
you to operate the pneumatic motor in a better and safer man-
ner.
