9.6.1 Front plates and additional wipers
Making sure that the carriage seals function properly is a prerequisite in ensuring that
the guideway provides a long service life. In general, the seals are designed to be
maintenance-free if given sufficient lubrication and kept a clean environment. Certain
operating conditions, such as dust or swarf on the guideway or inadequate guideway
lubrication, lead to increased wear of the sealing lips.
The wipers on the front plates and additional wipers should be checked for wear at
regular intervals (at least every 6 months) and replaced where required.
Replacing cross wipers and additional wipers
DANGER!
Risk to life posed by falling machine elements!
In the case of MONORAIL BM, the front plate is part of the rolling element
recirculating unit. Extraction of the front plate will lead to ball loss and can
result in falling machine elements. Possible consequences include death
and serious injury.
• Under no circumstances should the front plate of the carriage be
removed in the case of MONORAIL BM.
When replacing cross wipers and additional wipers, remove the fastening screws
from the front plate.
The following should be observed when doing so:
In the case of MONORAIL BM, under no circumstances should the front plate be
removed from the carriage body.
In the case of MONORAIL MR, the front plate does not need to be removed in
order to replace the cross wiper.
Always use an assembly rail to transfer carriages to and from the guideway.
In the case of carriages with a measuring system, uninstall the read head from the
housing prior to transferring carriages to and from the guideway.
