The 28R16 Ottobock Hyperextension Orthosis with Frame Construction is solely intended for
orthotic fitting of the trunk.
2 Indication and effect
Stable traumatic compression fractures of vertebrae of the medium and lower thoracic spine as
well as lumbar spine, and osteoporosis. Indication must be diagnosed by a physician.
Based on the 3-point system, the orthosis causes a lordosis in the sagittal plane, thereby relieving
the anterior body of the spinal vertebrae. The frame construction limits movements in the frontal
and horizontal planes.
3 Selecting the size of the orthosis
The orthosis is available in 5 sizes and is selected according to pelvis circumference:

for pelvis circumference in cm
4 Construction and components (Fig. 1)
The hyperextension orthosis is delivered as a component kit. The sternal support (1), which is
integrated into the front frame construction, side panels (2), and the pelvic band (3) are padded
with foamed material (Evazote). The sternal support is automatically adjusted to the required
angle using a small rocker. The lumbar support (6) is connected to the frame construction by a
waist belt (4). The special locking lever (5) enables easy application and removal of the orthosis.
The component kit consists of the following components (Fig. 1):
(1)
Sternal support
(2)
Side panel
(3)
Pelvic band
(4)
Waist belt

5 Adjusting the orthosis

When applying the orthosis, make sure that the sternal support (1) and pelvic band (3) fit prop-
erly. We recommend leveling the metal parts by hand. Alternatively, a bending iron with rounded
edges can be used.
The pelvic band (3) can be positioned on the rotation connections on both sides of the pelvic band
(3) using the screws provided (Fig. 2).
The lumbar support (6) is screwed into the waist belt (4) using a movable adapter part and is
positioned in the center (Fig. 3). To adjust the length of the spinal belt, shorten or extend the waist
