5.4.2 RS-232 serial interface test for scanner and
scales
The RS-232 serial interface test allows the diagnostics of sending and re-
ceiving of serial data through the Modular Jack 6×6 male connector (cable
connexion is described in chapter 4.16) that is used to connect the ECR to
bar-code scanners and electronic scales.
Procedure:
1. Switch the ECR into programming mode.
2. Plug the terminal connector into the PC connector on the rear ECR
panel.
3. Enter '502' using numerical keys.
4. Press the [Multiply] key.
Testing procedure:
1. The microcontroller sends one byte to the serial output (TxD1) for scan-
ner and scales.
2. The sent value is received back through the terminal connector into the
microcontroller (RxD1).
3. Test run is documented shortly on both display and the printer.
If the test yields an error, consult chapter 6.6.
Caution: The serial interface test fails (i. e. detects an error) only in two
cases: 1) if the terminal connector is not plugged in and the test reports as
"OK" and 2) if the terminal connector is plugged into the ECR and the test
report as "Error". This means, that the valid test results can be obtained
only by using the test along with the correctly prepared terminal connector
for the serial interface port.
5.4.3 External PC keyboard interface test
The external PC keyboard interface test allows
the diagnostics of sending and receiving of se-
rial data through the Mini DIN PS/2 connector
(cable connexion is described in chapter 4.14)
that is used to connect the ECR to the external
printer.
Procedure:
1. Switch the ECR into programming mode.
2. Plug the terminal connector into the PC connector on the rear ECR
panel.
3. Enter '503' using numerical keys.
4. Press the [Multiply] key.
Testing procedure:
1. The microcontroller send one byte to the serial output for the external
PC keyboard.
2. The sent value is received back by the microcontroller using the termi-
nal connector.
3. Test run is documented shortly on both display and the printer.
If the external PC keyboard test is resolved as incorrect, consult chapter
6.6 for further instructions.
Caution: The serial interface test fails (i. e. detects an error) only in two
cases: 1) if the terminal connector is not plugged in and the test reports as
"OK" and 2) if the terminal connector is plugged into the ECR and the test
report as "Error". This means, that the valid test results can be obtained
