Exterior Lam p Failure Indicator
Lamp
With the electronic key in steering
lock position 2, an indicator lam p
com es on. It should go out when
the engine is running.
If the w arning lam p does not go out
after starting the engine, or if it
com es on w hile driving, this lamp
indicates a failure in the parking
lamp, taillam p, stop lamp, or low
beam headlam p.
If an exterior lamp fails, the in­
dicator lamp will com e on only
when that lam p is sw itched on.
If a brake lam p fails, the lam p
failure indicator will com e on when
applying the brake and stay on
until the engine is turned off.
Note:
If additional lighting equipm ent is
installed (e.g. auxiliary headlam ps
etc.) be certain to connect into the
fuse before the failure indicator
m onitoring unit in order to avoid
dam aging the system.
Brake Pad W ear Indicator Lam p
With the electronic key in steering
lock position 2, the brake pad w ear
indicator lamp com es on for
approxim ately 30 seconds. It goes
out when the engine is running.
If the indicator lamp lights up
during braking, this indicates that
the brake pads are worn down.
Have the brake system checked at
your authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer as soon as possible.
Brake W arning Lamp
W ith the electronic key in steering
lock positon 2, the brake warning
lamp will com e on. It should go out
w hen the engine is running.
The brake warning lam p will com e
on:
• when there is insufficient brake
fluid in the reservoir (engine
running and parking brake
released), or
• when the parking brake is set
(engine running).
W arning!
Driving w ith the brake warning
lam p on can result in an acci­
dent. Have y o u r brake system
checked im m ediately if the
brake w arning lam p stays on.
D o n 't add brake fluid before
checking the brake system .
O verfilling the brake fluid
reservoir can result in spilling
brake fluid on hot engine parts
and the brake fluid catching
fire. You can be seriously
burned.
W hen the m inim um m ark on the
reservoir is reached, have the
brake system checked fo r brake
pad thickness and leaks.
To te st the brake w arning lamp,
turn electronic key in steering lock
to position 2. The brake warning
lam p com es on, and should go out
when the engine is running.
