Safety G uidelines for the Seat
Belt, E m ergency Tensioning
R etractor and Airbag
W arning!
D am aged belts or belts that
w ere highly stressed in an
accident m ust be replaced
and their anchoring points
m ust also be checked. Use
only belts installed or
supplied by an authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer.
Do not pass belts over
sharp edges.
Do not m ake any m odi­
fication that could change
the effectiveness of the
belts.
The "S R S " is designed to
function on a one-tim e-only
basis. An airbag or em er­
gency tensioning retractor
(ETR) that was activated
must be replaced.
No m odifications of any kind
may be made to any co m p o ­

nents or wiring of the
"S R S ". This includes the
installation of additional trim
m aterial, badges etc. over
the steering wheel hub, front
p assenger airbag cover, or
front door trim panels, and
installation of additional
electrical/electronic
equipm ent on or near "S R S "
com ponents and wiring.
An airbag system com po­
nent within the steering
wheel gets hot after the
airbag has inflated.
Im proper work on the sys­
tem , including incorrect
installation and rem oval,
can lead to possible injury
through an uncontrolled
activation of the "S R S ".
In addition, through im ­
proper w ork there is the risk
of rendering the "S R S "
inoperative. W ork on the
"S R S " m ust therefore only
be perform ed by an autho­
rized M ercedes-B enz dealer.
W hen scrapping the airbag
unit or em erg en cy ten sio n ­
ing retractor, it is m andatory
to follo w our safety instruc­
tions. These instructions are
available at you r authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer.
W hen you sell the vehicle we
strongly urge you to give notice to
the subsequent ow ner that it is
equipped with an "SR S" by alerting
him to the applicable section in the
O w ner's Manual.
Infant and Child R estraint
System s
W e recom m end that all infants and
children be properly restrained at
all tim es w hile the vehicle is in
motion.
All seats except driver seat have
special seat belt retractors for se­
cure fastening of child restraints.
To use, fasten child restraint with
seat belt:
Follow child restraint instructions
for routing. Then pull shoulder belt
out com pletely and let it retract.
The belt is now locked. Push down
on child restraint to take up any
slack.
