Tire R eplacem ent
Front tires should be replaced in
sets. Furtherm ore - in the event of
tire replacem ent - the spare wheel,
if possible, should be used on the
rear axle. Rims and tires m ust be
of the correct size and type. For
dim ensions, see "Technical Data" .
W e recom m end that you break
in new tires fo r approx. 60 miles
(100 km) at m oderate speed.
It is im perative that the wheel
mounting bolts be fastened to
a tightening torque of 80 ft.lb.
(110 Nm) w henever w heels are
mounted.
For rim and tire specifications, refer
to "Technical Data" .
W arning!
W orn, old tires can cause
accidents. If the tire tread is
badly worn, or if the tires have
sustained dam age, replace
them.
W hen replacing rims, use only
genuine M ercedes-B enz wheel
bolts specified for the particu­
lar rim type. Failure to do so
can result in the bolts loosen­
ing and possibly an accident.
Rotating W heels
The w heels can be rotated
according to the degree of tire
w ear w hile retaining the same
direction of travel.
Rotating, however, should be
carried out at the scheduled
service intervals, before the
characteristic tire w ear pattern
(shoulder wear on front w heels and
tread center wear on rear wheels)
becom es visible, as otherw ise the
driving properties deteriorate.
Im portant!
U nidirectional tires m ust alw ays be
m ounted with arrow on tire sidewall
pointing in direction of vehicle
forw ard m ovem ent.
Notes:
T horoughly clean the inner side of
the w heels any tim e you rotate the
w heels or wash the vehicle
underside.
The use of retread tires is not
recom m ended. Retread tires may
adversely affect the handling
characteristics and safety of the
vehicle.
Dented or bent rim s can cause tire
pressure loss and dam age to the
tire beads. For this reason, check
rim s for dam age at regular inter­
vals. The rim flanges m ust be
checked for w ear before a tire is
mounted. Rem ove burrs, if any.
C heck and correct tire inflation
pressure after rotating the wheels.
