indicator lam p has gone out fo l­
lowing the initial check, interrup­
tions and short circuits in the air­
bag ignition circuit and in the driver
and passenger seat belt buckle
harnesses, and low voltage in the
entire system are detected and
indicated.
W arning!
In the event a m alfunction of
the "S R S " is indicated as o ut­
lined above, the "S R S " may
not be operational. For your
safety, w e strongly reco m ­
mend that you visit an autho­
rized M ercedes-B enz dealer
im m ediately to have the sys­
tem checked; otherw ise the
"S R S " may not be activated
when needed in an accident,
which could result in serious
or fatal injury., or it m ight d e­
ploy u nexpectedly and
unneccesarily w hich could
also result in injury.
Front A irbags
The driver and passenger front
"SR S" airbags are designed to
activate only in certain frontal
impacts.

The front passenger airbag
deploys only if the passenger seat
is occupied.
Note:
Heavy objects on passenger seat
can cause the front airbag to
deploy in a crash.
Side Im pact Airbags
The side impact "S R S" airbags are
designed to activate only in certain
side impacts. Only the side airbag
on the impacted side o f the vehicle
deploys.
The side im pact airbag for the front
passenger deploys only if the seat
is occupied.
Side im pact airbags operate best in
conjunction with a properly
positioned and fastenend seat belt.
Note:
Heavy objects on passenger seat
can cause the side im pact airbag
to deploy in a crash.
Important!
The "S R S" airbags are designed
to activate only in certain frontal
or side im pacts. Only during
these types of im pacts, if of
sufficient severity to m eet the
dep lo ym ent thresholds, will they
provide th e ir supplem ental
protection. The d river and
passenger should alw ays w ear
the seat belts, otherw ise it is not
possible for the airbags to
provide th e ir intended supple­
mental protection.
In cases of other frontal im pacts,
angled im pacts, roll-overs, other
side im pacts, rear collisions, or
other accidents w itho u t
sufficient forces, the airbag will
not be activated. The driver and
p assengers will then be protect­
ed by the fastened seat belts.
W e caution you not to rely on
the presence of an airbag in
order to avoid w earing your seat
belt.
The "S R S " is designed to reduce
the potential of injury in certain
frontal and side im pacts which
may cause sig nificant injuries,
how ever, no system available
today can totally elim inate
injuries and fatalities.
The activation of the "SRS"
tem p o rarily releases a sm all
a m ount of dust from the airbags.
