W inter Driving
Have your car w interized at your
authorized M ercedes-Benz dealer
before the onset of winter.
• Change the engine oil if the
engine contains an oil which
is not approved for w inter
operation. For viscosity
(SAE/C C M C class) and filling
quantity, see C apacities: Fuels,
Coolants, Lubricants etc. in
Index.
• C heck engine coolant
anticorrosion/antifreeze
concentration.
• Additive for the w indshield
w asher and headlam p cleaning
system: Add MB C oncentrate
"S" to a prem ixed w indshield
w asher solvent/antifreeze which
is form ulated for below freezing
tem peratures (see Index).
• Test battery: Battery capacity
drops with decreasing am bient
tem perature. A well charged
battery helps to ensure that the
engine can be started, even at
low am bient tem peratures.
• Tires: W e recom m end M+S
radial-ply tires on all four wheels
for the w inter season. Observe
perm issible m axim um speed for
M+S radial-ply tires and the
legal speed limit.
Note:
In w inter operation, the m axim um
effectiveness of the acceleration
slip regulation or of the electronic
traction system can only be
achieved with M+S radial-ply tires
and/or snow chains recom m ended
by M ercedes-Benz. Snow chains
m axim ize perform ance.
Snow Chains
Use only snow chains that are
tested and recom m ended by
M ercedes-Benz. Your authorized
M ercedes-Benz dealer will be glad
to advise you on this subject.
Chains should only be used on the
rear wheels. Follow the m anu­
facturer's m ounting instructions.
Snow chains should only be driven
on snow covered roads at speeds
not to exceed 30 mph (50 km/h).
Remove chains as soon as pos­
sible when driving on roads w ithout
snow.
