Note: Seals are fitted in the front and rear bearing holders. These must be replaced when refitting.
The front and rear, bearing caps are fitted to the cylinder block with special seals.
The rear bearing cap provides half of the recess for the rear oil seal. When the cap is removed, remove the
seal and check for wear, renew if necessary.
Service operations
Remove the sump, see Operation 10-4.
Remove the strainer, see Operation 10-6.
Remove the rear oil seal, see Operation 5-3.
Fit the timing case backplate, see Operation 6-13.
