Symptoms - Cruise Control

NOTE
The following steps must be completed
before using the symptom tables.
1. Perform the "Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
Diagnostic Information: ", before using the Symptom
Tables in order to verify that all of the following are
true:
– There are no DTCs set.
– The control modules can communicate via the
serial data link.
2. Review the system operation in order to familiarize
yourself with the system functions. Refer to "Cruise
Control Description and Operation".
Visual/Physical Inspection
• Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the
operation of the Cruise Control System. Refer to
"Checking Aftermarket Accessories: ".
• Inspect the easily accessible or visible system
components for obvious damage or conditions which
could cause the symptom.
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause
of intermittent conditions. Refer to "Testing for
Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections: ".
Symptom List
Refer to "Cruise Control Inoperative/Malfunctioning".

Cruise Control Switch Indicator Inoperative

Diagnostic Instructions
• Perform the "Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
Diagnostic Information: " prior to using this diagnostic
procedure.
• Review "Strategy Based Diagnosis: " for an overview
of the diagnostic approach.
• "Diagnostic Procedure Instructions - Vehicle
Diagnostic Information: " provides an overview of
each diagnostic category.
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the cruise
control indicator switch. When the cruise on/off switch is
pressed ON, the cruise control switch is closed and the
signal circuit is low. When the cruise on/off switch is
pressed OFF, the cruise control switch is open and the
signal circuit is high.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, remove the inflatable restraint steering
wheel module. Refer to "Inflatable Restraint Steering
Wheel Module Replacement: ".
2. Disconnect the harness connector at the steering
wheel controls switch - left.
3. Cruise switch ON, test for less than infinite
resistance between the steering wheel control
supply voltage terminal 1 and the cruise control
indicator dimming signal circuit terminal 9 at the
terminals of the steering wheel controls switch - left.
➢ If the resistance measured is infinite, replace the
steering wheel controls switch - left.
4. Igniting OFF, verify that a test lamp illuminates
between B+ and the cruise control indicator dimming
signal circuit terminal 9.
➢ If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the cruise
control indicator dimming signal circuit for an open/
high resistance.
5. If all circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
