1.1.3.2.3 FI Mesh ToR – Single switch / rack
Figure 13 as shown below shows a FI Mesh deployed as Top-of-Rack. The servers can be attached to
single switch to provide dual homed active/active operations or two switches in the FI mesh in an
active/passive mode or active/active mode. Without an IST, for active/active to more than one VSP 7000,
if the servers are VMware ESX with NIC teaming, you can connect the servers to different VSP 7000's
without requiring either MLT or SMLT providing Port ID or MAC based load balancing is used where each
VM is allocated to one of the ESX NICs for traffic in both directions. If an IST is provisioned between a
pair of VSP 7000 switches, if the servers are VMware ESX with NIC teaming, you can connect the
servers to each VSP 7000 in the cluster where it is recommended to use IP Hash load balancing.
Figure 13: FI Mesh – Single Switch / Rack
The following diagram illustrates several methods for rear port mode cable connectivity in a 4-unit FI
Mesh. The VSP 7000 rear panel red-to-red and black-to-black can be connected in any manner.
