Figure 3: VSP 7000 vToR to SMLT Core
If we have an SPB core and a Layer 2 virtualized service is required between data centers, with SPB
provisioned on the edge VSP 7000 as shown in figure 4 below, we can add a L2 virtual service (L2VSN)
within minutes by only having to provision the edge VSP 7000 switches. All that is required is simply
adding a VLAN with local port members and adding a service identifier (I-SID) on the VSP 7000 switches.
As long as the I-SID matches between two or more VSP 7000 switches irregardless of the local VLAN
identifier used, we will have L2 connectivity. Further, if L3 routing is required, a VLAN with the same I-SID
can be configured on any core or distribution SPB node that supports IP routing allowing for routing to the
data center either via the native routing table or a VRF. If redundancy is required, simply configure the
same I-SID on another core or distribution node and enable VRRP with backup master.
If Avaya's Communication and Orchestration Manager (COM) is used, we can use the VLAN and VSN
managers to provision a L2VSN on two or more switches at the same time instead of using the CLI to
provision each switch.
