Edit Network

The Settings tab's Edit Network item allows Editors to customize these network settings:
• Network Disconnect Speed: How Fast or Slow the sensor will react if it is suddenly and
unexpectedly disconnected from power. This parameter applies to sensors of
Rev D1 and up.
• Sensor Network Settings Configuration: How the sensor is assigned an IP address, whether:
– Dynamic: Automatically assigned by a DHCP server. With this method, the
IP address may change if the user power cycles the sensor or moves it to a
different network, but you can always rediscover it, as explained in the "Find the
Serial Number and IP Address" on page 31.
– Static: Manually assigned by a user. With this method, the IP address remains
stable and unchanged, but if you forget it, you will need to re-address the
sensor, as explained in the "Reset a Static IP Address" section on page 59.
Configure these sensor settings according to your preferences, as follows:
1. Select the Settings tab's Edit Network item to open the M8 Network Settings Edit page (Figure
32).
2. Click the drop-down menu under the Network Disconnect Speed heading, and select one of
the following options:
• Fast — causes the spinning to stop completely within 8 seconds (default value).
• Slow — causes the spinning to stop completely within 48 seconds.
3. Click one of the following radio buttons to change the method of assignment:
• Dynamic — sensor accepts IP address assignment from DHCP server (default value).
• Static — sensor accepts IP address assignment by a human user.
4. Click the Submit button. If the Sensor Network Settings Configuration selection...
• ...remained Dynamic or changed to Dynamic, a message confirms, "Network settings
updated but the sensor must be rebooted for changes to take effect. Reboot?"
• ...remained Static or changed to Static, the web server displays fields where you can
update or populate values within the network range. Figure 32 (bottom) displays
example values that are probably different from those on your actual network.
– For future reference and for the log-in URL, note the new IP address on page 40.
– Select the Submit button to save the changed IP settings. "Network settings
updated but the sensor must be rebooted for changes to take effect. Reboot?"
5. Click the Reboot (or Cancel) button as shown in Figure 32 (top right). The sensor reboots
and the browser redirects to the M8 Sensor home page (Figure 27). Because the
sensor may take 40 seconds to reboot, the home page may not be useable until the
sensor is back online.
