Connecting the Management Ethernet Interface
The management Ethernet interface is an auto-sensing 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T RJ-
45 interface. It helps you to upgrade software and manage the router through a network
management server. It is not a service interface, and therefore, it cannot send or receive data.
You can connect the management Ethernet interface to the configuration terminal with a
straight-through cable or crossover cable.
Follow these steps to connect the management Ethernet interface to the configuration terminal:
Step1
Turn off the power switches on all power modules of the router. Connect the RJ-45 connector
of the console cable to the console port on the router and the DB-9 (female) connector to the
serial interface on the configuration terminal.
Step2
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the management Ethernet interface on the router, and
the other end to the Ethernet interface on the configuration terminal.

Connecting Ethernet Cables

Connecting an electrical Ethernet interface
Step1
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to an electrical Ethernet interface on the router and the
other end to the Ethernet interface on the peer device. Because a 10Base-T/100Base-
TX/1000Base-T fixed electrical Ethernet interface supports MDI/MDIX auto-sensing, you can
use a straight-through cable or crossover cable to connect the interface.
Step2
Check the status of the LED of the fixed electrical Ethernet interface after power-on. For the
status of the LED, see
