Removing the lower unit
1. Drain the gear oil. See steps 1–5 in
"Changing gear oil" (10-11).
2. Remove the propeller, trim tab, lower
unit, and extension (U-transom model).

unit" (8-3).
TIP:
When disassembling the lower unit, measure
the backlash before disassembly. See "Mea-
suring the forward gear backlash and reverse
gear backlash before disassembly" (8-40).
Checking the propeller
1. Check the propeller. See "Checking the

Checking the lower unit anode
