Removing
WARNING
♦ Observe the general safety regulations when working on
airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotech‐
nic components) ⇒ page 90
♦ Observe the special instructions for curtain airbag mod‐
ules ⇒ page 116 .
– Disconnect vehicle battery ⇒ Electrical system; Rep. Gr. 27 ;
Disconnecting and reconnecting battery .
– Remove moulded headliner
– Position straight O-ring pliers in openings of clip -1-, press pli‐
ers together and carefully release clip from opening in body.
Note
The clips are concealed by tabs. Before removing the clips, fold up the tabs.
– Release clips -2-, -3- and -4- from body as described.
WARNING
If one of the four clips is damaged on removal, the curtain air‐
bag must be renewed!
WARNING
Electrostatic discharges may result in unintentional triggering
of airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must electrostatically dis‐
charge him/herself before disconnecting the igniter and earth
wires. This can be done by briefly touching the body or striker
plate of the door.
– Release connector locking device and pull connector -5- off
curtain airbag
