6.2: Internal Battery Installation and Maintenance

CAUTION - BATTERY INSTALLATION OR REPLACEMENT MUST BE DONE WITH POWER OFF!
The Internal Battery is a 3V Lithium Battery (Panasonic BR2032 or equivalent) that maintains NVRAM and time
during outages. It is located on one of the vertical panels inside the Internal Shroud (see Fig. 6.5 above). Under
normal conditions, the battery should provide in excess of 10 years of service during storage conditions (disconnected
from terminals) or when properly installed in an energized meter. The battery should provide more than one year of
service during outage conditions (time on battery backup). A LOW BATTERY indicator on the display screen will
tell you when replacement is needed. Installation steps:
1. If you are replacing a battery, download all memory files to your computer. Data may be lost.
2. Remove power from the meter.
3. Remove the external meter cover and the internal shroud.
4. Remove the old battery with a screwdriver or similar tool.
5. Place the new battery in the battery holder according to the directions in Section 6.2.1 below.

7. Energize the meter.
8. Reset Time using Communicator software. If IRIG-B is connected, time is synchronized automatically.
