23 12 Assembling input shaft

•
Lightly oil the bearing surface for constant-speed
gear (1) on input shaft (10), and install the con-
stant-speed gear.
•
Lightly oil the splines in thrust piece (2) and install
it.
•
Place corrugated washer (3) on thrust piece (2).
•
Place spring segment (4) with circlip (arrow) fac-
ing upwards on corrugated washer (3).
•
Install backup washer (5) of the same thickness
as the original washer.
•
Compress spring segment (4) and insert split
segment washer (6) into ring groove.
•
Install retaining sleeve (7) with the shoulder fac-
ing over segment washer (6).

Check the fully-compressed length and adjust if
necessary ( 23.22).

Install spacing washer (8) of the calculated thick-
ness, and press on deep-groove ball bearing (9).

Important:
Check endplay at the spring segment.
If endplay is greater than the tolerance limit, the
cause may be wear or incorrect assembly.
Endplay:
Spring segment
on shaft ............. 0.4 ... 0.6 mm (0.0157...0.0236 in)
