Attention:
Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with
painted parts of the motorcycle, because brake fluid
destroys paint.

Drain rear brake system (

•
Disconnect brake line (2).
•
Unscrew the non-reusable hose clip (5).
•
Pull off hose (1).
•
Release and pull out pin (4).
•
Undo the fasteners (arrows) for the master brake
cylinder (3).
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:
•
Tighten non-reusable hose clip (5) with pliers,
BMW No. 13 1 500.

Fill/bleed rear brake system (
–
Adjust blow-by clearance.
X
Tightening torque:
Master cylinder to footrest plate
(clean thread + apply Loctite 243) .................. 9 Nm
Brake hose/line/banjo bolt ........................... 18 Nm

Insert a feeler gauge between the adjusting
screw and the brake light switch plate (arrow).
Feeler gauge............................ 0.2 mm (0.0079 in)

Warning:
First adjust the brake light switch for the foot brake
(
61.17).

•
Unscrew locknut (7) at piston rod (6).
•
Insert a feeler gauge between the adjusting
screw and the brake light switch plate (arrow).
•
Insert piston rod (6), turning to right until clear-
ance is present.
•
Carefully back off piston rod (6) until all play is
taken up.
•
Tighten locknut (7).

Check piston rod blow-by clearance.
Feeler gauge............................ 0.2 mm (0.0079 in)
