Numbering Interfaces

Before installing an HIM/MIM, you must install a FIP first. A FIP-200/FIP-210 supports both
HIMs and MIMs, while a FIP-100/FIP-110 supports only MIMs.
The interfaces of the device are numbered in the form of interface-type X/Y/Z,
Where,
interface-type: Type of the interface such as GE interface and serial interface.
X: Number of the slot where the FIP resides, in the range of 2 to 3 on the A6604
and 2 to 5 on the A6608.
Y: Sub-slot number, namely, the number of the slot where the HIM/MIM resides on
the FIP.
Z: Sequence number of the interface on the HIM/MIM.
Different interface modules on the same LPU have the same slot number X.
Different interfaces on the same interface module have the same sub-slot number Y.
For each type of interface, the sequence number Z starts from 0 on the interface module.
For a device configured with the RPE-X1, the management Ethernet interface number is
permanently M-GigabitEthernet 0/0/0 no matter whether the RPE-X1 (in the case of a
single RPE-X1) or the active RPE-X1 (in the case of two RPE-X1s) resides in slot 0 or slot
1.
For a device configured with the RSE-X1, the management Ethernet interface number is
permanently M-GigabitEthernet 1/0/0 no matter whether the RSE-X1 (in the case of a
single RSE-X1) or the active RSE-X1 (in the case of two RSE-X1s) resides in slot 1 or slot
2.
