A server accepts requests from clients, processes them and responds to the clients.
Network servers, data servers, web servers OZW775 also assume services for other
network devices.
The SMTP protocol is a TCP/IP protocol. It controls e-mail traffic on the Internet. The
ISP provides the SMTP server (mail server).
A subnet subdivides a network into smaller network segments.
Web server OZW775 sends e-mail unsecured, i.e. without SSL, the network protocol
for secure data transmission.
A subnet mask masks the IP address, i.e. it determines which parts of the IP address
form the network number and which parts the computer number (e.g. server).
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 means that the first three sections of the IP address deter-
mine the network number, and the fourth section is used for the computer number. In
this case, the first three IP address sections are identical for all network devices.
Example:
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 masks IP addresses: 192.168.1.1...192.168.1.254.
Note:
Do not use the first IP address 192.168.1.0 and last IP address 192.168.1.255.
The subnet mask in web server OZW775 corresponds to data point "IP subnetwork
address".
A standard gateway (see also DSL router) is also referred to as a network address
used by clients to send their packages if the target address is outside the immediate
network.
Network devices, and servers in particular, integrated permanently in a network, have a
static IP address. Clients often have a dynamic IP address.
Web server OZW775 (integrated permanently in a network) has a static IP address and
can thus be reached easily by clients.
A switch, similar to a hub, is a connecting element to connect various network seg-
ments or network devices. Contrary to the hub, a switch is an intelligent device used to
route packages only to the subnet or network device for which a package is destined.
The TCP protocol is a TCP/IP protocol. TCP is responsible for transporting data
between two communication partners (application). TCP is a secured data transfer
protocol, i.e. a connection to transfer data is opened, monitored and closed.
TCP is a so-called connection-oriented protocol. The transmission control protocol TCP
reassembles the data packages, sent by the Internet protocol IP via different network
connections, in the right order at the recipient.
Family of protocols used as the basis for the Internet. TCP/IP is the basis for many
Internet services such as "www".
E-mails are sent unsecured, i.e. without TSL, a protocol to encrypt data transmissions
on the Internet.
