Loading the wrong software into GIA63/63W units may cause an inoperable condition that
is not covered by warranty. Refer to Section 4.3 of this manual to identify which type of GIA
63 (WAAS or Non-WAAS) is installed in the aircraft, and how to choose the correct WAAS or
Non-WAAS software file. Loading the incorrect software may make the GIA 63 or GIA 63W
inoperable and necessitate returning the unit to Garmin for non-warranty repair. No warning
appears if the wrong software is selected.
8. Press the ENT key.
9. Press the CLR ALL softkey.
10. Using the FMS knob select the following files:
GTX Software
GTX Configuration
Pressing the ENT key will check and uncheck the highlighted software and configuration boxes.
11. Once the desired files are selected press the LOAD softkey.
12. Verify the correct software part number and software version on the SYSTEM STATUS page.
For software/configuration troubleshooting see Section B.4, otherwise continue to Section 4.7.4.

GTX Testing
If unit is removed or replaced the following tests are recommended:
The integrated transponder/altitude reporting system must be verified in accordance with Title 14 of the Code of
Federal Regulations (CFR) §§ 91.411 and 91.413. Ensure aircraft number is properly entered in configuration
mode.
4.7.4.1 Transponder Ramp Test
This test requires the use of a Mode S ramp generator. Specific instructions for operating the ramp tester are
contained in the applicable operator's manual. Refer to Title 14 CFR Part 43 Appendix F for testing criteria.
If no other maintenance is required, continue to Section 5.
