UPLOADING SOFTWARE, CONFIGURING, & TESTING
DO NOT ALLOW POWER TO BE REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM WHEN LOADING
SOFTWARE! Connect a ground power unit to the aircraft for software loading. Do not rely
solely on the aircraft batteries to prevent loss of power during the software loading process. All
GDUs should be in the same mode (configuration or normal), unless instructed differently by the
procedure. Remove power only when instructed by the procedure.
Loading the wrong software into GIA63/63W units may cause an inoperable condition that
is not covered by warranty. Refer to Section 4.3 of this manual to identify which type of GIA
63 (WAAS or Non-WAAS) is installed in the aircraft, and how to choose the correct WAAS or
Non-WAAS software file. Loading the incorrect software may make the GIA 63 or GIA 63W
inoperable and necessitate returning the unit to Garmin for non-warranty repair. No warning
appears if the wrong software is selected.
Remove Supplemental Data Cards (010-00330-41 or 010-00330-42) from the lower slot of the
GDUs before loading any software. Supplemental Data Cards left inserted can become corrupt,
making them unusable. Replacing corrupt cards is not covered under warranty.
Refer to the Cessna Maintenance Manual for approved software versions and part numbers.
Garmin recommends the use of SanDisk or Toshiba SD cards to load G1000 software and
configuration files. If software loading problems occur when using another brand of card, replace
the card with a SanDisk or Toshiba card and reattempt the software load.

4.1 GDU 104X

Original Display Reinstalled
If the removed display(s) are reinstalled in their original positions, no software or configuration loading is
required. This does not include units that were returned for repair as their software and configuration files are
deleted during the repair testing process.
Continue to Section 4.1.3.
Original Displays Installed in Opposite Locations for Troubleshooting
If the PFD and MFD are installed in opposite locations, no software or configuration loading is required.
Continue to Section 4.1.3.
New, Repaired, or Exchange Display(s) Installed
If a new, repaired, or exchange GDU is installed; the correct software, configuration and Jeppesen aviation
database files must be loaded to the unit. See Section B.4 for aviation database update instructions. Retain
Terrain SD card from the original display to reinstall in the new display after loading software.
Continue to Section 4.1.1.
