PISTON RING
1. Measure:
- Ring side clearance
Use a feeler gauge.
Out of
specification~Replace
piston.
NOTE: _
Clean carbon from piston ring grooves and rings
before measuring side clearance.
Piston Ring Side Clearance:
Top 0.03-0.07 mm (0.001-0.003 in)
2nd 0.02-0.06 mm (0.001-0.002 in)
2. Position:
- Piston ring
(in cylinder)
NOTE: _
Insert a ring into cylinder, and push it approxi-
mately 20 mm (0.8 in) into cylinder. Push ring with
piston crown so that ring will be at a right angle
to cylinder bore.
Piston Ring End Gap (Installed):

20 mm (0.8 in)
3. Measure:
-Ring end gap
Out of
specification~Replace.
NOTE: _
You cannot measure end gap on expander spacer
of oil control ring. If oil control ring rails show ex-
cessive gap, replace all three rings.
0.15-0.30 mm (0.006-0.012 in) Top ring
