What to do if the ping did not work

Ensure that you entered the IP address correctly.

Ensure that the subnet mask and default gateway are properly configured
on the device you are pinging.
Confirm this by viewing the IP Configuration property sheet for the device.

Ping the device's gateway.

If the gateway does not respond, ping a known good device on the device's
network.

Contact your data network administrator. There may be a configuration
error elsewhere on the network.
