SETUP Message
CALL PROCEEDING
Message
CONNECT Message
ADD PARTY Message
The SETUP signaling message initiates the procedure for setting up the
connection. It carries with it the requirements for the call. These essential
requirements (which are discussed later in this section) must be accepted
by network and the receiving device or the connection is not established.
The SETUP message contains the following elements:
Destination station address
Connection identifier VPI/VCI proposal
Network service
ATM traffic descriptors
QoS class
Transit network
AAL parameters
The CALL PROCEEDING signaling message is sent optionally in response
to the SETUP command. It indicates that the network has accepted the
requirements and the system is continuing to set up the call through to
the receiving station. The CALL PROCEEDING message includes the
VPI/VCI message element.
The CALL PROCEEDING message can be suppressed by the system to
make the signaling operation more efficient. For more information, see
"Update Call-Proceeding Enable Value" on page 195.
The CONNECT signaling message is sent in response to the SETUP
command. It indicates that the receiving side of the connection has
accepted the requirements and the call setup is complete. The CONNECT
message also includes the VPI/VCI message element.
The ADD PARTY message is used to set up point-to-multipoint
connections between a source "root" station and the destination "leaf"
stations. After a root connection is established between the root station
and one of the leaf stations via the SETUP message, additional
connections between the root station and the other leaf stations are
established using the ADD PARTY message. The ADD PARTY message
contains the same QoS and traffic parameters as the SETUP message used
to set up the root connection.
