NOTE: The location of the serial port on the computer will vary from
computer to computer. Refer to your computer's manual for
the location of the serial port on your computer.
(3) LocalTalk Interface for Direct Connection to a
Macintosh Computer
If your printer is equipped with the optional LocalTalk/RS-232C serial
interface board, it can be connected using the LocalTalk port. To
connect the printer to a Macintosh computer, you will need a Local-
Talk cable.
1) Make sure that the power of the printer and computer are
switched off.
2) Plug the LocalTalk cable into the LocalTalk connector on the
printer and connect the other end to the printer port on your
computer.
NOTE: The location of the LocalTalk port on the computer will vary
from computer to computer. Refer to your computer's
manual for the location of your computer's LocalTalk port.
(4) LocalTalk Interface for Network Connection in a
Macintosh Environment
If your printer is equipped with the optional LocalTalk/RS-232C serial
interface board, your printer can be connected to an AppleTalk net-
work for Macintosh computers. In this situation, the necessary Local-
Talk cabling and LocalTalk connector boxes will be needed.
For more information, refer to the manuals that came with your Apple-
Talk network software.
CAUTION:
Before installing the interface to the printer, be sure to:
Turn the printer off.
Remove the power cord and all other cords attached
to the printer.

9. Connecting to a Network

If the optional network interface board is installed, the transmission of
data between a network (e.g., Ethernet) and your printer is possible.
The cables and adapters you will need will differ depending on the
type of network you are using. Therefore, it will be necessary for you
to acquire the correct ones required by your network. In this situation,
it will also be necessary to set the network OS; install a printer server,
remote printer, or the such; and set the network board. For these
operations, consult the manuals that came with your network
software or network OS.
CAUTION:
Before installing the interface to the printer, be sure to:
Turn the printer off.
Remove the power cord and all other cords attached
to the printer.
