(1) EMULATION
a. Emulation Switching
This printer support the Emulation Switching Function. The user can
set a emulation each interface.
Emulation = AUTO
PCL5EC
PS2
Emulation switching will be done via key or PJL command. This
printer also support for emulation switching software (AUTO mode).
This software analyzes the received data, and automatically switches
between PCL5EC and PostScript Level 2 emulation according to
analysis result. Until Job End is recognized, analysis and printing will
be done in one of the 2 emulation. Operation will be equivalent to HP
LJ4MPlus and HP Color LaserJet.
When Job End is recognized, AUTO mode will be automatically set,
again to analyze the next job.
When Status Preservation is ON, both PCL5EC and PS2 emulation
keep the User Area.

(2) Memory
a. Outline
In this printer, RAM allocation will be defined. The following modes
affect RAM allocation. In each mode, it is necessary to obtain maxi-
mum efficiency and User Area.
1. Emulation = PCL5EC
= PS2
= AUTO
2. Resolution = 600dpi/AutoSwitch
3. Status Preservation = ON/OFF
(RAM Size)
This controller can support maximum 40MBytes according to com-
binations of standard/option (SIMM RAM slot) RAM.
Provided that:
8MB on-board
24MB (standard)
16M ∗ 1 slot;
SIMM
2 combinations are possible. (24M and 40M)
(Memory Management)
In this printer, RAM can be expanded to max. 40MBytes. It is
designed will be done to enable improved performance up by ex-
panding RAM. Each Buffer (Frame Buffer, I/F Buffer, Font Cache,
etc.) size depends on amount of RAM.
Operating System Area
This is minimum RAM area necessary for Operating System. It is
included each I/F Buffer.
Frame Buffer
This is the buffer where bit data is stored which will be actually
printed. The Full Frame Buffer is controlled by memory manage-
ment service.(Full Frame buffer, Display List and PowerBand Sys-
tem)
User Area (PCL or PS)
This is the area which PCL or PS2 emulation can use as desired
for Stack, Data Table, Font Cache, Font Table, Download Font
and Macro, etc. If Status Preservation is ON (at least required
12MB RAM), both PCL and PS2 User Area resident in the RAM.
If the Memory Full error happens during the print job at 600 dpi, the
action of the printer depends on AutoSwitch mode in the Menu.
When AutoMode = ON:
Print "Memory Full Error Message" on the Front Panel and print by
300 dpi (the printer switches the resolution from 600 dpi to 300 dpi)
When AutoMode = OFF:
Print "Memory Full Error Message" on the Front Panel and stops the
print job
