7. If you are instructed to return the dedicated slotless HBA controller, follow all of the packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
8. Route the backplane signal cables. (See "Replacing a hot-swap hard disk drive backplane" on page
135).
9. Connect the signal cables to the controller.
10. Reinstall the cover (see "Replacing the cover" on page 105).
11. Slide the server into the rack.
12. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.

Removing an adapter

Use this information to remove an adapter.
To remove an adapter, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Read the safety information that begins on "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on
page 100.
Step 2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords; then, remove the
cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 104).
Step 3. Disconnect any cables from the adapter.
Step 4. Grasp the PCI riser-card assembly at the blue tabs and lift to remove the PCI riser-card assembly.
Step 5. Place the PCI riser-card assembly on a flat and static-protective surface.
