Defining the Scan Options
When scanning an image, you define the following options.
6-4
Scanning
Resolution & Quality
This option enables you to specify the type of image you are scanning and the
resolution in dots per inch (dpi). You choose the option that provides the
appropriate level of clarity for your image. Generally, a higher resolution
provides better image quality.
Text/Line Art - Black & White
For scanning a black-and-white image, such as a document that contains
only text, this option produces a monochrome scanned image, with
sufficient image clarity and a faster scan time.
A recommended resolution setting is indicated based on whether you are
planning subsequently to fax (200 dpi) or print (300 dpi) the scanned
image. When using with OCR applications, 400 dpi is the best choice.
Photograph/Picture - Black & White
For scanning a graphic image, this option produces a monochrome scanned
image, with some shadings of black and white. This option provides a
better image clarity than the Text/Line Art Black & White option, but a
slower scan time.
