1. The system firmware is waiting for a
virtual terminal to be opened on the
HMC. Open a virtual terminal.
2. If a virtual terminal is open, the user
might have entered a CTRL-S key
sequence to stop the scrolling of data
off of the screen. If this is the case,
enter a CTRL-Q key sequence to
resume scrolling.
3. Check the serial connection between
the HMC and the managed system.
4. Reboot the HMC.
5. There may be a hardware problem with
the HMC. Refer to the IBM Hardware
Management Console for pSeries
Installation and Operations Guide.
6. There may be a hardware problem with
the service processor in the managed
system. Check the service action event
log in Service Focal Point for error
codes that indicate a problem with the
serial ports on the service processor.
The service processor is in the primary
I/O book at the U1.18-P1-H2 location.
Take the appropriate actions based on
the error codes that are found.
This checkpoint will flash by too quickly to
be seen on the operator panel. It may be
recorded in the progress indicators log,
which is accessed using the service
processor menus. If a partition hangs on
this checkpoint, complete the following:
1. Check for platform firmware updates.
Apply if available.
2. Call service support.
