IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
(b) Starting a flooded engine
(gasoline engine)
If the engine will not start, your engine
may be flooded because of repeated
cranking.
Vehicles without smart entry and start sys-
tem—If this happens, turn the engine
switch to "START" position with the accel-
erator pedal fully depressed. Keep the en-
gine switch and accelerator pedal in these
positions for 15 seconds and release
them. Then try starting the engine with
your foot off the accelerator pedal.
Vehicles
with
smart
entry
system—If
this
happens,
"ENGINE START STOP" switch with the
brake pedal and the accelerator pedal fully
depressed, and hold the "ENGINE START
STOP" switch for about 30 seconds. Then
the cranking hold function stops cranking
automatically, and you can try starting the
engine with your foot off the accelerator
pedal.
If the engine does not start, wait a few
minutes and try again.
If the engine still will not start, it needs
adjustment or repair. Call any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional, for
assistance.
NOTICE
Without smart entry and start sys-
tem—Do not crank for more than 30
seconds at a time. This may overheat
the starter and wiring systems.

(c) If you run out of fuel and
the engine dies

and
start
press

Restart the engine by following these
procedures:
1. Refuel your vehicle.
2. Operate the priming pump until you
feel more resistance to bleed the fuel
system.
3. Crank the engine until it starts.
If the engine does not start within 30
seconds of cranking, wait for 10 sec-
onds and try step 2 and step 3 once
again.
If the engine still does not start, con-
tact any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
4. After starting the engine, depress the
accelerator pedal lightly until the en-
gine runs smoothly.
z Do not crank the engine before re-
fueling and operating the priming
pump. This may damage the engine
and fuel system.
z Without smart entry and start sys-
tem—Do not crank for more than 30
seconds at a time. This may over-
heat the starter and wiring systems.
