KEYS AND DOORS
The engine immobilizer system is automat-
ically set when:
Vehicles without smart entry and start sys-
tem—The key is removed from the engine
switch.
Vehicles with smart entry and start sys-
tem—The "ENGINE START STOP" switch
is turned off.
The indicator light will start flashing to
show that the system is set.
In the following cases, contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional:
The indicator light remains on.

The indicator light does not start flash-
D
ing under the following situations.
Vehicles without smart entry and start
system—When the key is removed
from the engine switch.
Vehicles with smart entry and start
system—When the "ENGINE START
STOP" switch is turned off.
The indicator light flashes inconsistent-
D
ly.
RAV4_EE
The engine immobilizer system is automat-
ically canceled when:
Vehicles without smart entry and start sys-
tem—You insert the key to the engine
switch.
Vehicles with smart entry and start sys-
tem—You enter the vehicle carrying a key
with smart entry and start system and
press the "ENGINE START STOP" switch.
Even if the key battery is discharged, the
engine can be started. See "Smart entry
and start system" on page 48 in this Sec-
tion.
When the system is canceled, the indica-
tor light will go off.
The system is maintenance−free.
For your authorized Toyota dealer or
workshop, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional, to make you a new
key with built−in transponder chip, your
dealer will need your key number and
master key (vehicles without smart entry
and
start
system)
or
(vehicles
with
smart
entry
system). However, there is a limit to the
number of additional keys that can be
made for you.
NOTICE
Do not modify or remove the system.
If modified or removed, the proper
operation of the system cannot be
guaranteed.
