3.11 Hard Disk Test
The first digit of the STATUS number indicates the drive number being tested and the last
two digits indicate the error status code as explained in Table 3-5.
Subtest 01
Sequential read
This subtest is a sequential reading of all the tracks on the HDD starting at track 0
to maximum track. When all the tracks on the HDD have been read, the test starts
at the maximum track and reads the tracks on the HDD sequentially back to track
0.
Subtest 02
Address uniqueness
This subtest writes unique address data to each sector of the HDD track-by-track.
The data written to each sector is then read and compared with the original data.
There are three ways the HDD can be read:
1.Forward sequential
2.Reverse sequential
3.Random
Subtest 03
Random address/data
This subtest writes random data in a random length to random addresses. This data
is then read and compared to the original data.
Subtest 04
Cross talk & peak shift
This subtest writes eight types of worst pattern data (listed below) to a cylinder,
then reads the data while moving from cylinder to cylinder (to check the data
interference in the neighbor track) to compare. After the third pass, it tests the
motor-off function (HDD motor is turned off, stops for 20 minutes and is turned
on).
