Parallel Interface Specification (IEEE 1284)

Parallel Protocol
The Series 80PLUS Printer uses a standard PC-compatible IEEE 1284 parallel interface. The
following illustration shows the timing diagram for the interface protocol in compatibility
mode.
Busy
Acknowledge (L) Pin 10
Strobe
Data (Pins 9-2)
Th = Ts = 0.5us min.
Figure 4 Timing diagram in compatibility mode
1. The host places its data on the data lines.
2. The host strobes the data into the printer latch using Strobe (L).
3. The printer goes Busy (H) until the printer is ready to receive the next byte.
4. The printer acknowledges receipt of the data byte by Pulsing ACK (L).
5. The printer removes Bush (H) to allow continuation of data flow.
NOTE: Definition and timing of the parallel IEEE 1284 interface is beyond the scope of this
manual. For a complete description of this interface, refer to the IEEE 1284 Specification.
